What's Highlights in 2023

Red Shed Malting:

We are so grateful for the year we had! Thank you to all our customers, and industry colleagues we are incredibly excited for 2024 and can’t wait to keep growing together! ❤️

Some of our 2023 highlights:

⭐️ Commissioned a new malt plant: we more than doubled our production capacity and gained the ability to create even more styles of malt. The new equipment helps us use less energy & water & gives us increased control to create even more consistent malt

⭐️ Launched new products: the first new product we created with our new plant was a Pilsner style malt, we’ve been planning this one for a while holding on to some very low protein barley allowing us to create a full flavour, low colour pilsner malt. We also launched rye malt & raw rye!

⭐️ Rolled out new packaging: We listened to our customers & made the change to 25 kg, BOPP bags. These bags make recipe design simple. We loved the paper/poly bags but we couldn’t find a recycling option so we made the switch and hope to see a recycling option soon! ♻️

⭐️ Supported causes we care about: International Women’s Day brews (get in touch if you’re planning an IWD brew for 2024!) & the Prairie Beer Awards.

⭐️ Hosted some really neat tours: The International Federation of Agricultural Journalists tour helped us share the sustainability success story of Canadian beer & spirits crafted sustainably with craft malts. We then got to celebrate our partners in all those stories: the brewers and distillers who use our malts at our Customer Appreciation Field Day!

⭐️ Joe obtained his Certified Cicerone!

⭐️ Success on the farm and in the malt house: on the farm we had a successful harvest where we were able to stash away enough top-quality barley & wheat to work with for the next few years.

⭐️ With Red Shed, we were able to celebrate with many of our customers at the AB Beer Awards where they took home a plethora of medals and we were recognized as Community Builder Partner of the Year! We also saw customers bring home awards from: the World Whisky Awards, the Canadian Brewing Awards, the Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition & many more!
